iPod Touch vs. iPod Classic vs. iPod Nano
By Jeffrey | September 5, 2007

So Apple has been pretty busy it seems.
At the “beat goes on” special event they unveiled 3 new iPods, as everybody who doesn’t live under a rock predicted.
Here’s a rundown:
iPod Nano
The new units will include 2-inch, QVGA, 320 x 240 screens that are 65-percent brighter than previous models and have the highest pixel density the company has ever shipped (204 pixels per inch). In addition to the new screens, the extra-wide player will sport an enhanced UI and its own version of Cover Flow. The Nano will come bundled with three games, including a circular-Arkanoid rip-off called Vortex, and apparently you’ll be able to purchase more from the iTunes store. The player’s battery life has also been extended to 24 hours of playback for audio, and 5 hours for video.
The 4GB model will be selling for $149, though it’s only available in silver, while the rainbow-colored 8GB will leave you $199 lighter in the wallet.
iPod Classic
Like the brand new Nano, the flagship iPod is also sporting an all-new interface with Cover Flow. The iPod comes in 80GB and 160GB capacities, with 30 hours of battery for audio playback, 6 hours of video on the 80GB version, and 40 hours audio, 7 hours video for the 160GB device.
The iPod Classic is getting a new all-metal shell, and is selling at $249 for the 80gb, $349 for 160.
iPod Touch
The new iPod Touch has “the same size screen as the iPhone, but it’s even thinner” and it also touts the “same multi-touch interface” found on the firm’s handset. Additionally, it boasts a 3.5-inch widescreen display, the ability to “flick through your photos,” and you even get the “slide to unlock” feature, too. And yes, this thing actually has WiFi, which means web-surfing. As for battery life, the Touch will last 22-hours when playing back audio and 5 hours when watching video.
The iPod touch will be arriving in 8GB and 16GB flavors and will be priced at $299 and $399, respectively.
Which One?
160gb? I know which one I’ll be getting. Storage > Touch.

i like the touch alot.
Posted by: squid on September 30th, 2007 at 2:35 ami think it might be in competition with the ipod classic.
i love the touch and im thinking abiout buying it but still debating if i should go with the classic because it has more memory. Still wondering which one would be better to use when i am driving…
Posted by: Blonde Dude on September 30th, 2007 at 6:44 pmClassic or touch hmmm.
Posted by: Ian on September 30th, 2007 at 6:50 pmLooks > Storage, waiting for my touch to come from the US
Posted by: Haxolizer on October 1st, 2007 at 7:23 amThe nano looks cool. The touch IS cool. The classic is nothing exciting. No one is going to freak out and want to play with it.
However, the other two iPods don’t hold enough music for anyone who actually listens to a lot of music. It seems Apple is kind of forgetting the purpose of the iPod, which is music, and just making it look cool and have cool features. If only the touch held what the classic holds…
Posted by: T-Bone on October 2nd, 2007 at 7:20 pmipod classic sucks…
Posted by: robert deniro on October 3rd, 2007 at 8:33 pmI will get getting the Ipod touch Much better then classic. Classic is the video. Nano is still the nano with the extra feature of video. But the touch is revolutionary!!!
Posted by: aXXo on October 5th, 2007 at 10:23 amIf you look at it the classic is better than the touch in countless ways…
Posted by: barney on October 5th, 2007 at 3:23 pmUhhh its bugging me so bad. Do i want Classic or Touch. Memory or Touch Screen With WIFI. Longer Battery life or Bigger Screen. I want the touch because its the new technology. But i want tons of videos and pictures probably exceeding ipod touch amount
Posted by: XECIC on October 6th, 2007 at 3:34 pmI WANT THE CLASSIC IT LOOKS BETTER, IT HAS MORE STORAGE, AND THE TOUCH WILL PROB BREAK FASTER
Posted by: iluvdogs on October 11th, 2007 at 3:01 pmive had the touch on he past but i returned it. First of all the battery
Posted by: Cexxxar on October 12th, 2007 at 12:17 pmdies in like 4 hours of use and syncing sucks. But its a good intennet machine.anyways i bought the ipod nano 4 gb:D Da best. enough for me and ended up with 150 dollars left..
So…I just ‘upgraded’ to the 80 GB iPod Classic and I’m pretty satisfied with my purchase, considering it would cost me an additional $50 to purchase even an 8 GB iPod Touch. (I certainly can’t justify spending $400, or a $150 upgrade, to own a 16 GB iPod Touch…)
Although, a couple years ago, 8 or 16 GB for a standard iPod model would not have been too shabby. on the other hand, I could easily fill 80 GB with tons of music, a handful of videos and plenty of photos… I like to carry everything with me.
Any other thoghts from people who have purchased / owned either iPod? (I’m not interested in the Nano personally, it has little to offer compared to the other two current iPod models…and I don’t even consider iPod Shuffle to be an iPod.)
Posted by: Lixxx324 on October 13th, 2007 at 4:12 am…not to mention, the iPod Touch isn’t nearly as useful as the iPhone in my opinion. What the iPhone did (for AT & T subscribers only, of course) is fuse the cellular phone and the iPod technologies to form a high-tech flashy PDA of sort. Now that concept (to me) is worth investing a few hundred dollars in… too bad I don’t subscribe to AT & T!
Posted by: Lixxx324 on October 13th, 2007 at 4:18 amHey i would like to now which won shuold i get, The new nano or touch. which one. to me , i like the touch way better, but it might break fast. If you have the answer please writeback
Posted by: sdsd on October 13th, 2007 at 6:01 pmOnly one doubt, if anyone can help:
-When you see movies or videos with subtitles in IPod Classic, you can see the subs well? Or a bigger screen (like Touch’s) will be needed?
My choice depends on this.
Posted by: Gonçalo on October 14th, 2007 at 12:29 pmi need help in my decision, should i get the ipod classic or the new sleek revolutionary design of the ipod touch. if someone can help me with my decision please
Posted by: navis0 on October 15th, 2007 at 6:16 amDO NOT purchase an iPod Classic until you read this!
I just purchased two new iPod Classic 160s, one for me and one for my wife. I’ve used Gen 5.5 models before and was VERY happy with them. I loaded my brand-spankin’ new Classic up with all of my favorite videos and happily used my iPod AV cable that worked like a charm with my Gen 5.5 iPod to connect it to my TV — and received one of the nastiest reality slaps ever. When I went to Videos > Settings > TV Out, you cannot activate the “TV Out” by switching it to “On”. No dice.
Wanna know why?
The reason is because Microso… I mean Apple has purposefully locked out this setting and the only way to actually switch this setting to “On” so one can watch their iPod Classic on their television is to connect it to a device that has an Apple Authentication chip built into it, e.g. an Apple Universal Dock, along with a cable kit for the Universal Dock.
What does this mean?
Well, for starters it means that Apple made a MAJOR change to their new iPods and didn’t tell a single soul (INCLUDING THEIR SUPPORT STAFF!) that you would no longer be able to watch iPod video on your television — unless of course you rectify the problem by spending even more money on new accessories. Nothing like solving a problem by throwing more money at it, eh?
It also means that you are all going to have to lug around a Universal Dock and completely different cable kit from what you were using before if you want to watch iPod Classic videos on your television. Awesome, huh?
All this being said, my specific question is:
Apple, what in the heck were you THINKING when you completely broke one off in us, your loyal customers? What were you thinking when you released this drastically-changed iPod and didn’t disclose it to any of your customers? What were you thinking when you did all of this and neglected to inform your ENTIRE SUPPORT STAFF of these changes?
Or maybe a better way to ask the question is:
Apple, were you even thinking?
I for one am returning two brand new iPod Classics to Virgin Music Superstore first thing in the morning. So much for “Think Different”, eh Apple? If anything, you folks are showing us that you “Think Similar” to other manufacturers that try to milk us, your consumers, out of every last red cent that you can by forcing us to buy all new accessories in order to get your product to perform. The best part is that you didn’t even give us the common courtesy of LETTING US KNOW BEFORE-HAND so we could decide to live with buying new accessories along with your iPod Classics or passing on it.
Thanks for a nice kick in the teeth, Apple. I assure you that it will be your last chance to do so as I will never again purchase an Apple product. Shaft me once, shame on you. Shaft me twice? Ain’t gonna give you the chance! Good riddance to bad business practices!!
Posted by: Jason on October 15th, 2007 at 1:09 pmI don’t know what to buy. I love the ipod touch and I think it would be awesome to buy, but I want to use the ipod mainly for videos, and a little music. I don’t care about putting it on my tv. All I want to know is what should I buy? ipod touch or ipod classic?
Posted by: Eric on October 16th, 2007 at 4:48 pmiPod Touch: COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY, considering everyone’s phone will have internet AND phone AND media in the next year. Plus, the Touch has too little storage to be useful, and the internet is ONLY wifi — not cellular. It is a complete “hey let’s gettem excited to buy something that does a lot of things badly, instead of a few things well” hoax.
Get the Classic if you need SPACE.
Get the Nano if you need TINYNESS.
Don’t be fooled by internet + slightly bigger screen + touch — there are already iPhones and iClones out on the market.
(about phones — why do we insist on combining our music and our phone? what if you hook your “phone” up to the stereo at a great party, so people can bump to your tunes, but then you need to go outside and make a call? case in point. keepem separated as long as they are both small.)
Posted by: Josh on October 17th, 2007 at 7:43 amalot of ppl are saying they bought the new ipod classic and its crashing.. if u have it plz tell me is it good???
Posted by: c'estmoi on October 17th, 2007 at 8:27 amHasn’t crashed yet — only had it a day — but perhaps they were going crazy switching menu levels while listening to shuffle.
Posted by: Josh on October 17th, 2007 at 8:57 ampersonally, i think the iPod touch is the best choice for people who want a little bit of music, some videos, and also want the advantage of Wi-Fi. If you want a ton, a TON of storage, go for the iPod Classic. But 40,000 songs is 2 years worth of music and 200 hrs of videos, is 400 half hour shows. I think that is unnessicary. Do you really need that much space? The iTouch is great because it has so many new options. The only bad thing is that if you have a big library, you have to pick the songs you want. But I think I’m going to buy the iPod Touch because of my needs, and what I want to do with my iPod. I think it is a personal choice. That is why they have many different iPods, for different peoples needs. The Nano is for tininess, and small storage. Shuffle is for exercise. The Classic is for a lot of storage and the Touch is for everything else. I’m going with the Touch but I think its just about what you need, not about what other people say.
Posted by: Liv on November 18th, 2007 at 10:09 amAlso, I dont think the Touch will break faster. It is advanced technology, just like the iPhone. You can snap the Nano in half, any of these are just as breakable as the Touch.
Would I use 80gb? No. Would I use 8gb? Maybe. Can I afford the Ipod touch? Yes. THe answer is pretty obvious. Bring on the ipod touch!
Posted by: David on November 20th, 2007 at 3:39 pmim having the same problem of whether to get the classic or touch, and since im not gonna b paying 4 this, im tempted to go with the touch, but no, classic is classic and im goin with it, touch is too much and seems like it can go wrong quicker, so im careful and its more money toward another present!!!
Posted by: smart1-01 on November 23rd, 2007 at 6:37 pmi am getting the i pod classic. If you want space, this is it. if it is style, the nano. the touch was an unneccisary addition to the i pod family as it is exactly the same as the i phone, minus the phone. it is just a way of gettin more money out of comsumers!!!
Posted by: Jord@H-001 on November 25th, 2007 at 12:02 pm160 gigabytes is not two years wroth of music. Not even close.
5,000 songs only covers about 12 to 13 days.
Posted by: Charlie on November 25th, 2007 at 8:28 pmI have been asking myself the same questions as everyone else. I just purchased the 80G Classic for one reason. We wanted all the music we own in one portable location. The WIFI aspect of the Touch is definitely tempting but we are going to hold out til next year when the IPHONE comes out with more memory and features and make the switch on the cellular side. Then we will have the best of both worlds. As to the glitchs on the Classic, it sounds like the 1.0.2 release fixed most of those and Apple has been pretty good at pushing software updates to any problems that arrise. As to the new accessories that are required for the Classic, well that really doesnt affect us because this is our first IPod. Guess I will have to think about that when they come out with their next model.
Posted by: Edward on November 26th, 2007 at 11:32 amClassic or touch? on the whole I think the classic is worth the 250 dollars. I mean, come on! 80 gig for 2 and a half hundred? they’re joking. sure the touch has better tech but the memory space is what mainly counts. i say memory>tech. CLASSIC is better worth.
Posted by: Daur0s on November 28th, 2007 at 11:38 am40,000 is 160 GB not 5000
Posted by: Coolieo on November 28th, 2007 at 6:37 pm40,000 song is 160 GB, it 2 years of music
Posted by: Coolieo Man on November 28th, 2007 at 6:39 pmI’m also having the same problem. I have to decided to choose whether I should buy the iPod Classic or the iTouch. In my opinion, iPod Classic 80 GB fits about 20,000 songs but iPod touch only can fit around 800 songs. I think I’d choose the iPod Touch. But I don’t really know if the iPod touch is good or not because now I have an iPod Nano 2GB and sometimes it froze whenever I spin the wheely thing to fast. Hmm..hard choice!
Posted by: Dave on November 30th, 2007 at 7:32 amnano vs. classic I am trying to choose from those 2. If you want storage, go with the classic. Style go with the nano. I like alot of songs so I am goig with the clasic
Posted by: Bob on November 30th, 2007 at 2:41 pmok so here is my deal. i want the ipod touch because well its just the coolest thing ever. but, the thing is i can only afford the 8gb. so i dont know if that is going to be enough space for me. thats why i was thinking of purchasing the classic. i mean its 50 bucks cheaper and stores a hell of a lot more. but im craving the touch screen and the wifi and i know i wont break it or anything. but if i run out of space, what am i going to do then? i need some advice please.
Posted by: xp on December 1st, 2007 at 3:41 pmI have the 80g Ipod Classic and it’s the best! But now that I’ve seen what the Ipod Touch can do I’m getting tempted to buy it cos of the big screen and the high-tech look but Ipod Classic is better in my opinion. It stores more and it’s cheaper so I’d recommend Ipod Classic. The only problem with the Ipod was when it came up with an error saying that it couldn’t read the disk or something but Itunes store helped me out on that one.
I’d say
Ipod Touch
Looks = 10/10
Storage 4/10
Screen Size = 10/10
Features = 8/10
32/40
Ipod Classic
Looks = 8/10
Storage = 10/10
Screen Size = 8/10
Features 8/10
34/40
Ipod Classic Recommended
Posted by: Martin on December 3rd, 2007 at 1:35 amI’m between the Black 8Gb Nano and Black 80Gb Classic. At first I hated the new Nano after losing my old one which I would probably buy again if they still made it; but now I quite like the design :S
The iTouch is out of the question for me because of price range and quite frankly I think that it is just a jumped up way for them to make loads of cash with all these showy features- only worth it if you must have Wi-Fi, I think the memory is pretty cr** for that price and wouldn’t be suitable for me as I’d only be able to afford 8 gig. I’m not looking for super-stylishness, just a good player with good memory.. I know I will never ever fill up the 80 gig with my audio but then if I begin to like watching my vids on it then I think it will be better than the Nano fot me.
What do you peeps think? Any opinions on what I should pick - and justify your choice too plz. I only have til Sunday to choose!!!
One more question - how does everyone find the sound on iPods do you think its any good? I think the earbuds are pretty poor, but is the sound okay with decent earphones? Because, all in all, its the quality of sound which counts for me…as thats the main point of an iPod, is it not, good sounding music?
Any opinions appreciated!
Posted by: Ellie on December 5th, 2007 at 4:52 pmI am deciding between an iPod nano and iPod touch. I guess the big question is why aren’t I taking into consideration the iPod classic. Probably because I think the pocket-size is a big feature in the nano. But, argh (drools)…the touch! It is so… GOOD! I could just about surrender the size of the iPod nano for the pure awesomeness of the iPod touch. Yet, so many people will want to play about with it and everything - it could get damaged. And, as the owner of a Motorola E680 (a touch screen phone), I can understand the downside of a touch screen. Although i COULD purshase a screen protector. I was at the shops thinking about it yesterday and was assuring myself that, as a 12 year-old, I do not necessarily need WiFi. Or do I? I saw the advertisement a few moments ago and JEEZ! Do Apple have persuasive commercials or what!? Anybody with any ideas plz help! Thanks.
Posted by: Lachy on December 7th, 2007 at 8:13 pmPersonally, the touch is sweet, but the battery sux. I really need help on this one! Sounds like the touch wins, though. Help?!!! Waht should i get?
Posted by: Music Is My God on December 10th, 2007 at 2:08 pmEveryone in the debate liste here. Now since there have been many problems reported about the touch I personally wouldn’t buy it. I am getting the classic, because i personally only want it for tons of music and video space. The wi/fi and internent seems uneccessary since most phones can go onto the internet. I am not giving up on the touch though. I believe it will do well enough that Apple will make another touch with more space.
Posted by: Classic Man on December 10th, 2007 at 4:32 pmguys, touch just came out and like anything new it must have some glitches but the classic is most likely not to have glitches. Second of all i-pod touch is all screen so it is extremely prone to sand getting in or the screen brakeing, but the classic on the other hand is way more stable. And then theres that the classic has way more capacity, and the touch has very little. Heres a survey that i designd to see which one suites you, all ull need is a calculator or a paper and pen/cil:
Do you listen to alot of music?(By alot I mean 200,00/40,000 songs?

Posted by: Classic Man on December 10th, 2007 at 7:24 pmWell, The wifi Will only be used at home for the time being for australians. But that is a godsend for my type of family, We only have one computer And Theres always someone on it. It sometimes Works at school You i can use it for research one all the computers are ebing used. As for the memory, I have a 40GB Computer. Might not seem like much but it does me well. The classic, I believe is a waste. Exactly the same features as the new Nano, But Unbeleiveable High memory Level. Do you all seriously Need THAT MUCH Music? Because of the Touchs price for australians, That provokes a Lot of people to stay less outide with a touch. The nano can be snapped. The Touch could be Pressed too hard. The classic Could Leave you With Only a partion Of your money Used well. Screw you guys, I’m going for An iPod Mini.
Posted by: Pat. on December 10th, 2007 at 8:56 pmHm.
Still debating.
Does anyone know how far you can actually go on wifi?
Cuz I heard that you can only go on youtube and the apple store. ~_~
Posted by: Kim on December 11th, 2007 at 1:33 pmOh and The reason Why the touch Is so expensive is pretty Obvious. It has all touch, No buttons and Wifi.
Posted by: Pat. on December 11th, 2007 at 6:07 pmHey Guys. I have found myself leaning to one side a bit here. And thats towards the iPod touch - BUT I have just been on the site and, like the ads, its persuaded me. But I want to hear the inside story (Clearly, Apple wouldn’t advertise glitches etc.). I used to go against the whole ‘Phones are for calling’ concept. But, I realise that phones are for calling and, mine in particular, does not have great compatibility. If you want an application or game, it must be a compressed java file. Another idea that has popped in to my head goes against many of the people stating that phones have internet. This is true. BUT it is cellular internet, meaning it is expensive and has limited WAP Pages. I would prefer having an iPod (or phone) that browses the real internet. And, hey, if you’re lucky, you might be able to cipher WiFi without a WEP Key from your neighbours for free (Bonus!). WiFi is generally cheap anyway and more and more cafes, restaurants, public areas etc. have WiFi accessibilty if you, for instance, buy a meal (or even for free!). This also means that you don’t have to have songs downloaded to your iPod - you could just listen to a bookmarked page. Even better, dare I say, you could download songs from free mp3 download pages. But then again, iPod nano will always have its simplicity and its everlasting convience. (Sigh), this is going to be a difficult desicion…
Posted by: Lachy on December 11th, 2007 at 7:11 pmok, so heres my thing…
i am totally in love with the touch for the look, the fact thats its like the new thing, and the simple fact that its a touch screen. But im definatly one of those people that listens to music all day and knows ALOT of songs out their and im pretty confident that i would be able to fill up all the space in the classic…but im not sure if i need to because my favorite songs change week to week.
so im just wondering what someone thinks i should do??
Go with the new sick look of the touch… Or
Posted by: sam on December 12th, 2007 at 2:29 amplay it safe and go with the huge amount of memory of the classic?
IPOD TOUCH VS. IPOD NANO
I want somthing with a flash drive so that I could run or skateboard with it, but I also want to have lots of vidios. I am 12 and I don’t want a phone so I don’t care if iPhone is better then the touch. Please help me!!!!!
Posted by: person on December 12th, 2007 at 8:07 amHello Gents And Gals. I Live in australia, And it seems to be really hard to connect to the Net. But, Theres an Upshaft. My parents are divorced, so i go to my Dads house for one week and my mums for the other. At dads, We have a neighbour Who is mostly away but has an iPhone shipped from US. His Wifi is Pretty Strong and i can pick up the connection. Piece of cake. But then again He found out 2 days ago so now i Have no wifi at all. I think I’ve wasted around 200 bucks on the iTouch for its wifi Capabilities in Aus. Until they have a system update or Some more hotspots in Aus, The iTouch will continue to lose My Spirit More And More every day.
Posted by: Pat on December 12th, 2007 at 3:46 pmLet’s face it, you’d have to be a bit of an idiot to buy the 16Gb ipod Touch over the 160Gb Classic (that’s *ten* times the capacity for the slighlty slower readers). If the former was 120Gb, 100Gb, perhaps even 80Gb, then maybe… but to the people who’re bothered whether people will cluck over their new gadget or not, sort yourselves out! The concept of ipods or MP3 players is NOT exactly new. And if you need to buy the *much* less practical gadget (less capacity, more presses to get where you want) just to impress your friends, you need to get a life quite frankly. Or a job, or hobby etc.
Posted by: Jay on December 13th, 2007 at 5:38 pmI currently have an ipod touch. i like it a lot. i have plenty of space for my first ipod ever and i use it to browse the web when im in a hurry all the time. I cant wait for the third party apps coming in february! frankly, if u really dont need an ungodly amount of space and want something new and trendy (like a former nano user) then get the touch. i think the click wheel is old news and i know that it would bug me to have to use it to navigate everything. don’t plan on switching to a click wheel netime soon and love the multi touch rather than a regular touch screen. some words of caution: i have had it for a little over a month and the back it full!!! of scratches (but the front is virtually scratch proof) and i have only ever treated it with care. Other than that, plenty of space for me, lots of cool features.
Posted by: wmd on December 14th, 2007 at 12:07 amI having the same issues as all of you here. I really like the touch because of the net and the touchscreen, but 16gigs doesn’t sound all that great for new technology. My laptop only has about 40gigs though and i am having no issues with running out of memory, i am not one of those memory junkies. The classic seems to be more bang for your buck with 80 gigs and 160gigs but i think by the time i finish that amount of memory up, id be on to my next ipod. The nano is 100% out of the question for me as the screen is too small for watching video’s. Can anybody help me out here?
Thanks.
Posted by: mitch on December 14th, 2007 at 11:46 amOK. I’m back again with a changed mind (again). I’ve been reading the other readers’ comments. I’m interested in both ‘person’s’ (nice name wise guy) and ‘Pat’s’ comments. I am 12 and I live in Australia too. I was interested to here what Pat had to say about low amounts of WiFi spots in Aus. Would I be able to connect to my family’s network? Just like my desktop and laptop can (My Mum’s desktop is the main computer that emits the wireless signals). Or is WiFi different to a simple family wireless network? Please Help!
Posted by: Lachy on December 14th, 2007 at 4:41 pmi have a 4gb ipod nano but i dont know how to get movies on. i love the size of it but its to small for movies i only listen to 300 songs on it should i go for a 80 gb ipod classic
Posted by: Gman devin on December 14th, 2007 at 11:18 pmo ya by the way how many gb does one movie take up cuz i kinda found out how to get movies on but it says that the movie is almost 7GB!!! help me out stay with nano or sell it and ask for a classic for xmas
Posted by: Gman devin on December 14th, 2007 at 11:21 pmthis is what i think of all the ipods ipod touch: cool touch screen, good amount of memory, internet, but might get all screwed up with the fliping and dragging ur fingure across the screen. ipod classic: size is good, gb not soo much unless u listen to that much, and u will never run outta room. ipod nano: can fit in pocket or anywhere good, gb is kinda low but i only listen to 300 songs, all features are awsome, screen to small. ps they should have 30 and 60 gb for the classic
Posted by: Gman devin on December 14th, 2007 at 11:31 pmHEy guy,
well I bought an iPhone 2 days ago and I’m taking it back to exchange it today.
It is an absolutely cracking phone don’t get me wrong and if I could use all it’s features I’d not be taking it back BUT I was under the impression that it worked with WiFi, when that’s not working, EDGE and then GPRS.
Turns out that where I am we have no EDGE signal Norfolk in the UK - the signal is too poor to work (unless you’re in Norwich) so it means I’ve got a very expensive phone that has no MMS, no video recording, no internet, no emails, no google maps, no access to utube or itunes. Plus the camera is only 2mpx.
I do have a cracking screen for watching movies - I can’t fault that at all! the ipod is cool and very cleverly fades out music to ring then when you’ve finished your call fades the music back in again (even when plugged in the stereo in the car!).
But to change tracks when driving at night it’s a bit scary you’ve got to click the button then slide the slider across and then press the right area on the screen to change the track - much safer to just click the right side of the wheel…..
All in all. If I had EDGE and WiFi networked locally I would be keeping it but without those features it’s worse than most phones we have on the market now. With that access it blows all other phones out of the water - mega.
Check your area coverage - if it’s good go for the iphone - you won’t be disapointed if you haven’t steer clear get a touch or classic and a standard phone.
So now I have to choose whether to get a classic or touch….

Posted by: Coolieo Man on November 28th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Since everyone posting here has yet to go through puberty (and thus take basic algebra)…
40,000 songs x 4 min/song = 160,000 min.
160,000 min. / 1440 min/day = 111.1111 days
Yeah, lots of music, but not 2 years.
I’m thinking of getting the Nano for running. I’d like to have videos on it to watch while working out (lifting weights, elliptical machine…) but am concerned about the size (memory and screen).
Anyone with experience have advice?
Posted by: Chris on December 16th, 2007 at 5:25 pmhey its me again i forgot to check so anyone have any ideas for me
Posted by: Gman devin on December 16th, 2007 at 11:02 pmThe only reason why i’d get the touch is because of the whole web browsing thing. Honestly, I don’t even have time to do that kind of thing when I’m out and traveling. I’m happy with my classic becuase I’m able to choose a song WITHOUT actually looking at the screen. It’s all with a click of a button. you see what I’m saying?
I don’t even have to worry about space. [=
Posted by: noneofyobiznaz on December 17th, 2007 at 3:25 pmI already have a nano, not one of the new ones but one of the real old school ones like the first nanos they brought out, it does the job it want it to although i wish it would play movies somtimes. i am no technologgic nerd and dont know much about these kind of things and what would suit me best in eed somess opinion to help me.
Posted by: Tom on December 18th, 2007 at 12:48 ami like the touch and am thinking of purcsing one the 16g model but i want to know is it worth my money? do i really need a touch, i mean i would probably never use the wifi on it but everything else seems to appeal to me. should i wait about a year and see if the capacity goes up and the price goes down or make a purchase after christmas at the boxing day sales? pleaes help
ok i got experience with all of them. i got classic my friend go touch and my cousin got nano.
JUST TO PUT THIS OUT THER. I HATE THE IPOD CLASSIC
IT SUCKS!!!! ITS GOT GOOD MEMORY BUT WHO WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE 40,000 SONGS???
The classic is a waste of money
If you work out a lot and lift weights than you should get the nano. and if you got nothing to do than there it is, your fav. video.
If you run alot i would get the touch. my friend uses it when he is running and it seems like he has no problems with it at all
the one that i would get is the ipod touch. u might think that the battery sucks but it really doesnt. only if you leave wifi on. turn that off than it would probably last for as long as they advertised it for.
The touch has a great screen, holds a nice amount of music and videos. you dont really need videos cuz u got utube if your at a hotspot.
THE IPOD THAT I THINK COMES OUT ON TOP IS THE IPOD TOUCH. ITS GOT PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING YOU NEED EXCEPT FOR CAPACITY. IT IS DEFINETLY WORTH YOUR MONEY.
Posted by: regicidic on December 20th, 2007 at 6:24 pmI GOT THE IPOD TOUCH FOR CHRISTMAS AND AM REALLY EXCITED!THE ONLY THING THAT DISSAPONITED ME IS THAT WIFI DOES WORK WHILE RIDING IN A CAR I HEARD AND THAT’S ALL.THE CAPPICITY IS FINE WITH ME BECAUSE I USE TO HAVE A SAMSUNG MP3 PLAYER WHICH HELD 120 AND I WAS FINE(=
Posted by: sequan on December 23rd, 2007 at 8:14 pmi have had my ipod touch for about 2 months now,and it’s great! totally go for it, i love it! way better than the classic!
Posted by: ashley on December 23rd, 2007 at 8:38 pmI think the ipod touch is a waste of money as of right now. the point of an ipod is for MUSIC. Not for fricken internet.Althought it is pretty tempting, becuase I cannot decide between a classic or a touch. Ive been thinking about it and for the price that the touch is worth, it’s not worth it. In a few months there WILL be a higher storage touch for the same price. And $500 for 16gigs? total rip off. You may think that the Touch will be SO useful. Internet and stuff, while going on trips and what not. But really it wont work unless your in the same place as the connection. The classic Holds A LOT more, so you’re ready when ever. and the battery life is longer lasting. For those of you who are buying it for the Looks.. then im sorry, thats rather pathetic.
Posted by: Hasina on December 24th, 2007 at 1:30 pmi love my new 80gb black classic a lot.
Posted by: bunnc on December 25th, 2007 at 6:24 amthe touch’s interface is not very userfriendly, when you’re travelling. and it only can hold 16gb, which is quite a lot for your music, but it might be tight, if you’re watching to movies on your touch.
the battery is also not the best, because of the big display. so if you want to be more cool, want a biger screen and the touch interface, than go touch.
if you want memory and battery go the classic.
Please help me. I got Ipod Touch for xmas. But my moms and i realized classic can have games, downloaded. IPod Touch can’t. My mom said I can exchange IPod touch for classic but have to decide on December 26th. Help me, I want downloaded games, music, and youtube. Which one should I choose?
Posted by: Girl on December 25th, 2007 at 7:05 amwell”girl” the classic does not have youtube because there is no net on it. You can only have youtube video’s when you download it off the net and change it to mpeg-4 format. And the touch can have pages and pages of apps if you JAILBREAK it( just google jailbreak my touch ). Go for the touch girl
Posted by: MITCH! on December 25th, 2007 at 10:17 amhi, again..same debate. Itouch(8) vs classic(black 80) vs nano (4g). I listen to about 350-400 music. i cant decide really. also, what happens if u jail break it? does t bann ur ithouch or somethin next updates? (realize this if my first ipod) i dont worry i can affor them all but whitch one shall i choosed…not sure yet
Posted by: James on December 25th, 2007 at 12:16 pmThe itouch can go to all other sites my brother has one and ive gone to hundreds of sites other than just itunes and youtube. But I have a question for christmas i got a nano but im not sure if i want to spend an extra 200 dollars for the 16g touch. What is your opinion? nano or the touch
Posted by: Francesca on December 25th, 2007 at 4:33 pmIm debating iPod Nano (8gb) vs Classic (80gb).
Posted by: Richard on December 25th, 2007 at 9:21 pmUsage - Music on the go (car, plane, beach, sailboat).
Major issue - how durable is the hard drive in the Classic? Not planning to throw it at the wall but concerned about potholes, big waves etc.
My current music library online is about 5.5 gb (with a fair bit of stuff I dont really need on iPod) - NOT planning to put my entire CD collection on it.
Does Nano fit in pocket easily? (it looks wider)?
Does anyone *seriously* watch any sort of video on an iPod? No plans here to do that, but am I being shortsighted in foreclosing that option by going Nano.
Which is easier to use (wheel size & feel; software)? Screen size & clarity for menus?
the reason for the differences in size between the ipod touch and the ipod classic is that the touch is a solid state memory device and the classic has a harddrive in it. if your gonna be running or doing activities whilst listening to it then get a solid state device, if not then get an ipod classic for the higher capacity as when moving around alot it can disrupt the movement of the harddrive as it has to spin.
Posted by: kennycoolio on December 26th, 2007 at 2:43 amMy opinion is if you want to watch videos forget the nano, because its hard to watch on that tiny screen
Posted by: Anonymous on December 26th, 2007 at 8:00 pmI have a few questions about what ipod to buy though. I was planning on getting the touch, it didnt work out though so now Im thinking of getting the 80 GB black classic or waiting till next generation ipod touch.
1.Is the screen of the classic big enough to watch movies, tv shows and such?
2.Does the 80 gig classic fit in an average jean pocket?
3.Does anyone actually use 80 gigs of space?
4.Will the classic skip if I go running with it? Does anyone actually have experince of this?
Thanks in advance!
ok so my friend has a touch and i can say they rock. an iphone with quite a few things tooken out but nevertheless awesome. the only bad thing about touch is the whole flash memory thing. yay it makes it thinner and batter better but it costs sooo much more and holds sooo much less. if u want to be the cool dude with youtube ona touchscreen in ur pocket, go for touch. if ur just for the music go for classic. obviously touch would be better video/picture viewing. last, price comparison. eight gig touch=$300 while EIGHTY gig costs 50 less. think about that one. buh bye
Posted by: Ev-O on December 26th, 2007 at 11:26 pmmyy badd. baterys not that good on touch. lol. got it mixed up. still, classics the best choice. GOOD BYE
Posted by: Ev-O on December 26th, 2007 at 11:28 pmone last entry folks. if touch comes out with a hard-drive based system THEN it would deff be the best choice. im seriously leaving now. goodbye
Posted by: Ev-O on December 26th, 2007 at 11:31 pmAnonymous: i think the screen is quite big enough to watch a tv show or something, that is not that long.
Posted by: bunnc on December 28th, 2007 at 3:49 pmit fits great my pocket, it is a bit heavy, but slim. i dont use 80gigs, but if you have a lot of music, it will fit all your songs, and a movie is appr. 600mb on my iPod, so if youre watching to movies or hold pictures (i mean a lot) than you can use the space. sry, i dont have an experince of the running, but that should be not a problem for the classic i think. i hope i could help you

iPod Touch barely better - I need the WiFi, and with the SDK (same as the iPhone’s BTW) coming out in Feb. ‘08 and with Java and Flash for Safari Mobile OS X (creators of both have explicitly stated that eventually with the approval of Apple - and there IS approval for Flash - WILL be created) the iPod Touch will be a little computer - no need for a laptop ;-) except for Office/iWork, but that’s not a different story…
So, why not the iPhone? Unless I can fly to France and get an unlocked phone from Orange, or teleport to the future and get a 3G/3.5G phone with a video camera and MMS/multi-recipient SMS, I don’t need the iPhone or AT&T’s restrictions on it. I do have Cingular BUT they are not quite so restrictive on their regular phones. (They REQUIRE a data plan and certain other things - can’t just use the WiFi without the plan) Until then, the iPod Touch meets my needs of Internet apps with WiFi and some music storage (16GB is more than enough for me - I don’t have an extensive media collection OR bring everything with me) On the other hand, if/when Skype creates an iPhone/iPod Touch client… let’s just say there’s no need for a phone :-) (OK, there is, but just the thought…)

Posted by: SKyLaR on December 29th, 2007 at 3:51 pmFor about 2 months I debated whether I should buy the 80GB classic or the 8GB touch so I went to the apple store and tested out both of them. I quickly realized the classic is a much better deal than the touch. It has way more storeage, it is much more durable (I mean it! I picked up the touch and I thought it was going to break), and it is way more cost efficent. I mean, why spend 50 extra dollars on something with ten times less storage? It just doesn’t make sense. So for christmas I recieved the 80GB classic and I love it!! Its very easy to use, much more durable, holds way more, and saves you money. I really don’t think the touch is going to sell. Why spend all that money for a touch when you can spend 100 extra dollars and buy an iphone?
Posted by: Amanda on December 30th, 2007 at 1:29 amI’ve had the 16GB Touch since early October, and I was not sure about it at first, but once I got it I knew that I would keep it. It works great and it looks great too. If you really don’t need more than 16 gigs of storage, I suggest going for the sweetness of the iPod Touch, but if it does matter a lot then go for the Classic (or another device entirely, perhaps), or wait until the 32+ gig flash chips come out in gen 2.
Posted by: Christian on December 30th, 2007 at 8:25 pmim still under the q about keeping my 80 gb black classic which i got for christmas or exchanging it for an iPod Touch 8gb.After reading all the comments im starting to believe the classic is better. touch is more likely to break, less storage, i dont even need the internet i have a laptop. classic more durable, more storage, has all the features i need.but…the ipod touch looks way cooler!
Posted by: Sammy on January 1st, 2008 at 1:34 ami just got a 160gb classic last week and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT.
Posted by: sweetyyyyyyyy on January 2nd, 2008 at 12:35 amalthough it has a hard drive, i can browse through my menus really fast & all of my album art shows up. i guess i got lucky because everyone else has said that it’s really slow, but i beg to differ. the video/picture quality is amazing. and the sound quality is incredible. the touch is a WASTE OF MONEY! most people have internet on their phones.. and the fact that it’s wi-fi makes it difficult to get a signal everywhere. the classic is definitely the best ipod out there.
I’m in the middle of a Touch Vs Classic debate with myself right now. I’ve already got an iPod Mini - which has survived me quite well for 2 years, but the battery is finally getting too poor for me to live with (if I play it from a full charge as I leave the house in the morning, it will have run out by the time I arrive at work 1.5 hours later. I would like plenty of space since not only do I use my ipod for music, but I also use it as a portable disk drive. The touch on the other hand looks nice, the web browser looks much better than most mobile phone browsers, but do you know what the real downfall is for me? No not the storage size (although that is a big reason). It’s because it (as far as I’ve heard anyway) does not have physical volume / track skipping buttons. I don’t know about anyone else, but I like to have my ipod clipped on my belt, or in my pocket and easily skip to the next track or change the volume without having to take it out and flash in front of the whole world, where anyone can punsh me in the throat and run off with it.
So it looks like I’m going for a classic, and just praying that I don’t get disk errors.
Posted by: Claxon on January 2nd, 2008 at 8:36 amI have an iPod touch 8GB and my sister has an iPod classic 80GB. I wish that my touch has more storage, but I would much rather have the touch screen. I have almost filled the touch due to TV shows and a movie, but I don’t care!
Posted by: Liam Kelley on January 2nd, 2008 at 2:47 pmWill all you stupid shit people stop saying that the touch will break easily?? I mean come on its higher technology wise compared to both other ipods, do you really think that apple will make their top of the line ipod more fragile than the rest? Like you Sammy ( the touch is more likely to break ), the touch has the same effing durabily as the rest of the ipods. The nano and the classic are just as breakable as the ipod touch. Infact the touch is more durable than the nano, the front of the screen has the multitouch layer but its covered with SCRATCHPROOF glass. The back of the touch is enclosed also. So People like Sammy…get a life and stop putting the touch down just because you went for the classic..

If you have thousands of songs on your ipod then put them in seperate playlists and download them when you want them on your ipod. You don’t need all of the songs on at one time you couldn’t listen to them in a day anyway. JUst sync the playlists when you want them to use them.

Posted by: kUnkArnitZ on January 10th, 2008 at 6:29 amHere we go, if you have your headphones in ALL freaking day(12hours) and each song is 4 minutes long.
12 hours is 720 minutes. 720/4 is 180 songs. How ever many thousands of songs the savvy music listener has can be on the computer and 8 or 16GBs can hold 1600 to 3200 songs which would last you
1600/180=8.888 which is almost days worth of songs 12 hours a day then you can go on your pc and load a different playlist with other songs on your ipod. why would you want to look through 10000 songs if you werent going to listen to everyone?

1) I’ll be going to vacation for 15 days and I need it just for that 15 day trip.
2) I want to watch small video clips. But what will be its extension. Can it recognize .avi files and .wmv files.
3) I don’t care about touch screens and everything as I’m first user.
4) I am not really worried if the wi-fi use is only for going to youtube or for downloading.
I need the quick answer because I need to buy it by today evening.
Any help is appreciated.
Posted by: Kittu on January 11th, 2008 at 2:07 pmWell Kittu, I havnt heard of a person buying an IPOD for 15 day usage. Usually they last you for years(:, when it comes to ipods they are kinda for long-term usage. Anyways.. Regarding your questions; The IPOD nano cannot recognize .avi and .wmv files, mpeg-4 is the only way to go. No worries though, programs like PSP VIDEO 9( there is a ipod version ) Convert Any file to mpeg-4, and can also convert YOUTUBE video’s to mpeg-4; the program is also free of charge keep in mind. Now you need help with an answer, and my opinion is you should just top up for the 80 gig IPOD classic. The classic has tons of memory( you can use it for whenever next time your going on a trip ), It has a bigger( 2.5 INCH ) screen better for watching video’s
Posted by: MITCH (: on January 12th, 2008 at 6:11 amI bought bothe; the ipod classic and the ipod touch. Personaly I think the classic is better; not only because it has a greater capasity and has a longer battery life, but also because it doesn’t brake that fast. The last reason why I prefer the classic is beacause it looks good, it has the typical ipod look which makes the ipods so unique.
Posted by: leon on January 12th, 2008 at 2:08 pmI am deciding to go with the 160 GB iPod classic. I have been going back and forth between the classic and the touch, but after reading all of the comments from several internet sites, I chose the classic. Why? If I’m going to get an iPod for music and videos, then, I’m going for the iPod totally designed for it with tons of memory. Then, as I save money during the next several months, I’ll get the iPhone for my multimedia system built for wi-fi, spreadsheets, phone use, and endless entertainment capabilities. As to what someone had posted previously, if you’re using the iPod for entertaining guests and what not, it’s stupid to have everyone listening to music, and then, later, turn it off so you can use it for your phone. As for the touch, great looking product, but not enough memory. All in all, I decided on the classic for my music, videos, and additional memory storage, and an iPhone (eventually) for wi-fi and phone use capabilities.
Posted by: J on January 15th, 2008 at 5:35 pmI really wanted an iPod Touch. But after reading this, I don’t know.

I thought that I could hook the iPod Touch up to my computer via a USB port. It doesn’t have one? Hmmm. That’s strange. The Classic does…doesn’t it?
Posted by: OhMy on January 16th, 2008 at 8:09 amDear all,
i am a French, actually living and working in China.
I use a lot the public transportation, every day arround 3 hours of travel.
First of all, one week ago i bought the classic 80.
I was quiet satisfied, expect for the screen size.
Then i decided to change it for the ipod touch.
Here started the nightmare.
Of course this Ipod is beautiful and slim but:
I cannot control if i dont watch the screen.
I even cannot switch the track easily.
The battery life is really low.
When u are half sleepy in the bus and want to switch the track or change the volume, you have to wake up and focus on the screen.
This story just to tell you that, for my point of view a such device should be easy to ‘forget’.
The problem with the ipod touch, you alway think about it… This device doesnt make me relax.
I always need to focus on it to adjust sound, volume …
So this week end i will go back to change it again…
Maybe i will change my mind if the battery life of the touch increase by twice and the memory go to 60 go.

Posted by: Pierre on January 17th, 2008 at 3:21 amHi,
I’m also planning to buy either a Nano or a Classic, but I can’t decide. I prefer the Nano because of it small size and weight, but the 80 GB capacity of the Classic sounds very good. Those who own a Classic: is it enjoyable to watch longer videos or even films on it? Because if not, I don’t think I need such big capacity, the 8 Gig of the Nano is enough for my music.
Thank you in advance!

Ok so people. Let’s put it this way. READ THIS BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR DECISION.
Ipod Classic: Big Good Viewing Screen Amaziing Memory and can act as a decent hard drive.BUt very large and is hard to fit into pockets. I owned one but it got stolen.
Ipod Touch: Really Damn Cool Wifi Touch And shit. But Remember this. When your in range of a wifi signal and you own a laptop just use your laptop to get the tunes songs. Plus Wifi can only work
as far as it allows which is like what? (40 ft might as well use your laptop). So just use your computer when you can in a wifi range rather than the touch. I dont think itll break easy but your screwed if the screen cracks after your 30 day warrenty. There isnt much memory either for all you big song listeners.
Ipod Nano ( I own one): Ok so I love bmx biking. Great for biking or when you love to walk. It’s easy to get out of your pocket when you dont like a song or when the volume’s too loud. Also when you’re biking you don’t have to try to pull out the huge size of the touch and classic out of your pocket. It fits anywhere. Its cool cause it does everything the classic does BUT ITS SMALLER but has less memory. I watch movies in class and it fits in my hand. Boring assemblies are a good place to use it. But the widescreen is really small and the fullscreen doesnt show the whole picture.
So choose w/e one you want. They all have their own purposes and if u like “new” get the nano or touch. Oldie but goodie Classic. I owned one but it was stolen. but i like the nano more.

i was debating which one i should get too but i decided to get classic cause its the signature ipod and has the scroll wheel. its fun
Posted by: iDude on January 18th, 2008 at 9:42 pmWell, I would also choose the classic over the nano, the only thing that holds me back is its relatively huge size and weight. I do think that it’s not really comfortable to carry with you. Although the $50 price difference between the two is so tiny, I think I will take a 8 gig nano. Thanks for the replies anyway! :)
Posted by: Jan on January 19th, 2008 at 3:12 amI’d like to ask a question that has been already asked, but noone answered as far as I can see. Is the Classic actually suitable for jogging? I mean is it likely that the hard drive gets damaged during heavy movement, like jogging?
Posted by: Vann on January 20th, 2008 at 2:22 pmThe ipod classic is very durable ive dropped it several times and it hasnt skipped a song yet or broken.

i ot an ipod touch but i wish i had gotten a classic instead
Posted by: kento on January 25th, 2008 at 1:26 amI am trying to choose btween the classic and the touch. As far as a music library goes, I have the 1st gen. nano and it almost has 300 songs on it. I want to watch videos but I know I won’t watch that many, and I don’t want to put movies on it. I probably would never fill up 80gb of space but is the touch really worth the price? I would have to get the 16gb.
Posted by: BoilerChick on January 25th, 2008 at 11:03 pmwell .. the same million dollar question.. touch or classic??? looks vs memory..
i’ve pretty much made up my mind to buy a classic although i m concerned about 1 thing..
is that problem of classic videos not being able to play out on tv solved or do we need to augment it with some universal adapter thing??
Posted by: chintan on January 26th, 2008 at 7:37 amplz help me out!!
I would definetly get touch over classic. Just my opinion. But a much bigger screen that is touch is much better for watching movies on. The ipod touch 8gb holds up to 2000 songs which is more than i need. So if you put about 1000 songs on the 8gb touch you can fit about 3 or 4 full movies, just depend how big the movie you want to put on it. Heres the movies i have put on mine 30 days of night = 658mbs, Shoot Em Up = 710 mbs, Resident Evil Extinction = 659mbs, and Superbad = 785 mbs. They are all great quality and I also have 1243 songs all on my 8gb touch. So it fits more than lots of you think
Posted by: Chad on January 26th, 2008 at 3:32 pmyes i got the 16 gb, this is for the chick. it is totally worth the price. the screen for videos is so awesome. it is just the right amount of space. you can manuver through your playlist, songs and videos so much easier too.

The touch is looking pretty good, and I’m on a college campus so there is wi-fi in all of the lecture halls…. hmmmm
Posted by: BoilerChick on January 28th, 2008 at 10:35 amhow can you even compare the touch to the classic.
Posted by: wattsy on January 28th, 2008 at 11:11 amthe classic is held back to only music, videos and pictures. the touch can do so much more. if your willing to pay the money.
Here are the advantages of the Ipod Touch
1- Touch Screen
2- Bigger Screen
3- Longer playback time for videos
4- Safari
5- Youtube (i.e free music videos)
6- Free Applications and games
the 16 gig still has loads of space, think about the old 10 gig ipod that everyone went crazy for.
Posted by: michael on January 29th, 2008 at 6:35 amI got the clssic just today and it rocks!! The touch is not worth it, has so little space. A movie is about 700 mb to 1GB. If you you have the 16gb touch you will only be able to have roughly 16 movies! And you have the photos and music ontop so make it about 15 movies. So if you look at it with the touch you won’t have to much room. Compare it to the 160gb classic! 160+ Movies
Posted by: Stephen on January 30th, 2008 at 6:54 pmI can’t see the point! Why is it good to store all your movies on your iPod? All your music on your iPod is OK, but all your movies on such a small device, which is only a last resort thing for watching videos. I really don’t understand… The nano is perfect for me.
Posted by: Frederic on January 31st, 2008 at 3:47 amyes i agree with you, frederic, but every1 says, that the coolest thing is watching movies on the touch. and for music there is the nano or the classic (which i own). that’s it. iPod touch is for showing how ‘cool’ you are.
Posted by: bunnc on February 3rd, 2008 at 8:47 amI have an 8GB green iPod Nano Video, and I must say, it’s the best choice. The Touch is nice, but a little overpriced. The classic is the nano, but bulkier, with more space, and not funky looking. I mean, really, what percentage of iPod owners has over 2000 songs on their iPod? Not alot [just in case you were wondering]….
Posted by: Nick on February 5th, 2008 at 3:29 pmSo, sure, get the Touch if you want to fork over an extra $120 for a Ds meets the iPod, but I try to spend my money conservatively, which is why I got the Nano :)
Hey guys, I’ve just visited the Apple website and what did I see there? The iPod touch is now available with 32GB memory for $499.
Posted by: Salvi on February 6th, 2008 at 2:28 amduh y get da classic or da nano or any ppl don’t listen to all of there songs any ways i think i pod touch is better u could just watch you tube and go on the internet but it suck tho because you gave to be around wireless internet for it to work! so y get either i’d say get the nano no one listens to the whole entire music on there ipod thay just listen to the same music every time becouse thay like many songs at least ppl like 20 songs or more all they need to do is put thos on there ipod so just get the shuffle
Posted by: Aqua`` on February 6th, 2008 at 6:52 pmmusic video luvers out there get ipod touch!
movie lovers get ipod classic! put tons of videos on it!
if it breaks make sure u have a warranty on it!!
For me it’s either the classic 80GB or the Nano 8GB bcuz the touch seems like an overpriced toy. The reason I might want a nano is bcuz i don’t know if i could use all the 80GB with music and video. I’m still unsure of which one to get. And if you really want the internet browsing thing from an itouch, just buy a PSP. Wow! That was a hard decision to come across!!
Posted by: Murtagh on February 7th, 2008 at 3:24 pmo and ponder this Ryan! Gawd shut up that’s really annoying
Posted by: Murtagh on February 7th, 2008 at 4:15 pmit seems the touch does deserve more credit than i’ve been giving it. I browsed more websites on it, and it’s awesome. Kinda odd that none of you up there that really support it bothered to tell us all the different things it could do. I assumed it could only go on the internet. I still think it’s too pricy though, so I’ll get the 8gb black nano
Posted by: Murtagh on February 8th, 2008 at 3:13 pmNot that I think this is a consideration for many of you, but if you exercise, go to gym, ride a bike, kayak, etc. it is awkward to have a classic or touch strapped to your arm or waist. The nano is a nice compromise for form and functionality. And, seriously, do you really need your ENTIRE music and video library with you at all times? Are you really going to listen to 20,000 songs and watch 50 movies before you dock again? Just make some playlists and go… much easier…
Posted by: Jason on February 8th, 2008 at 4:29 pmthe classic is definately unecessary unless you need tons of movies with you and the nano seems too small. I think I’ll go with the 16gb touch. My first post seems really dumb. The PSP is so slow on the internet and the touch can do so much. And who actually plays the games on their ipods? They’re all boring
Posted by: Murtagh on February 10th, 2008 at 12:10 pmFor my opinion. classic is good. if you are buying touch. The review said that it is 90% similar to iphone. So that is obvious. I should just take iphone than touch.(if you are buying touch). One of my friend fell his iphone and the screen crack. so i think it is not a good idea to have touch. Go with classic.
Posted by: Ted on February 11th, 2008 at 9:31 pmI just got a ipod nano 3g black and its asom its my first ipod. I dont have enough room for all my videos and music but i have all music on it 3gb and the rest is movies. Its asom but i wish i would have goting a classic instead to hold my movies on it. the touch will be in probel half the ipods in 2 years so in septermber when they make new ipods ill just get a classic on sale or a new ipod (hopfully like 120 touch with a 3in screen or somthing and wifi internet that lets you get music and video throw the wifi internet instead of just music an like 10 hour video playback.) richt now i have pirates on the caribbean 1, Rugrats Go Wild, Liol and Stitch, and a like 7 episodes of varous shows

i have to decide between the classic and the touch… which one should i get? i have songs and video… but which one would b better? i have one of the old nanos and i really need an upgrade… and im so confused. my best friend tells me to get the touch so we can have the same thing… but i can afford the 8gb… or the 80 gb classic… which one do you ppl think is better?
Posted by: sillylilly on February 16th, 2008 at 2:26 pmHey sillylilly! Get the touch if you wanna watch videos on your iPod. Personally, I think that the video function on these devices is simply superfluous: I’ve chosen the nano.
Posted by: Kanmacur on February 17th, 2008 at 4:23 amwoah… u used to many big words… i didnt know wht u said. the only thing i understood was tht i should get the touch. i think i will…. lol. hopefully its the right decision! =)
Posted by: sillylilly on February 17th, 2008 at 1:33 pmThe Classic is miles and miles ahead on memory!!! The touch has wifi though!!! And the Nano boasts being small and cheap!!!
Im gonna get the C lassic as i would like to store lots of simpsons episodes + music, ipod games and movies!
Posted by: Jayden Yugi on February 18th, 2008 at 7:50 amI know the shuffle is not included in this topic, but I’ve just seen that its price has been reduced to $49! It’s amazing! However, I’d never buy a shuffle to myself.
Posted by: Kanmacur on February 20th, 2008 at 3:41 amI just a 80G classic, my first pod. I was wondering how do I get songs from the internet onto my ipod. I heard limewire is good. Is that true? Or is there another site that si better? And how do I get the music to play louder and more clear in the standard earphones. Thanks
Posted by: hickoryswinger on February 21st, 2008 at 3:14 pmSorry fellas, I didn’t pick which one I liked. I would rather have to classic because isn’t that what the ipod was made for? To listen to all your music without putting in cd after cd into your old walkman or cd player. If you want to watch movies and listen to music then I guess the touch is it. Movies are too distracting. With music you can multi-task. So the 80G classic is for me.
Posted by: hickoryswinger on February 21st, 2008 at 4:57 pmi have a REALLY big problem. i dont know what to choose. its either the iPod Classic or the nano. i want the nano because my fave color is red and i want the (product)red one, but then i want the classic because of the storage space. i mean-80g! woah. and its just about $50 more expensive. HELP!!
Posted by: cheska on February 23rd, 2008 at 5:22 amHi cheska! I had the same dilemma, I didn’t know which one to choose (classic or nano). Finally, I chose the nano because of its small size and small weight. 80GB is really attractive, but 8 GB is enough for my music (I consider the video function completely useless). However, if you want many thousands songs to be stored on your iPod, get the classic.
Posted by: Kanmacur on February 23rd, 2008 at 10:50 amthis was a tough choice. I owned a 30 gb iPod video previously and decided it was time to upgrade. To me, the 16 gb touch has enough memory to store all of my media (about 1500 songs, 3 movies, and a handful of pictures). with the youtube feature you dont have to worry as much about putting music videos assuming you have a wireless connection around you often. the wi-fi is amazing and extremely handy.
Posted by: guitarboy on February 25th, 2008 at 5:28 pmI think ipod touch is cool, but, do I have to take it out of my pocket everytime I need to change volume or track???
Posted by: Demetrono on February 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pmI think after all the above review ,
Classic - Unlimited Music\Video\Fun\Photos\Everything in the packet
Touch - Unlimited Style\very limited music\video\More scratching of pocket
Nano - limited music\very small\Nano+50$ = Classic
So, weighing goes to Classic
After a music lover goes to ipod Classic
Now a days , so many funky mobiles having features like internet\camera\ etc are getting but none has high capacity, which music greedy needs to have all in his pocket but sacrifice some favourite music because of less m/w
So go for iPod Classic - the one Apple made a good product
Posted by: Sri on February 27th, 2008 at 9:46 amThe shuffle is now available with doubled capacity (2GB) for $69.
Posted by: Kanmacur on February 27th, 2008 at 12:48 pmI’ve continued searching and found that I do like the ipod touch better. Rumors that it gets scratched easily have been proven incorrect on youtube and it’s pretty much free music videos. I think 16GB is enuf if you only have about 1-14 vids, music, and photos. Besides all the features make it awesome. Even though I agree with you Ryan, your phrase still sux. When i first saw it it made me want to rebel against the touch just cuz a jerk like you was for it!
Posted by: Murtagh on February 27th, 2008 at 7:09 pmalso, the iphone only comes in 8GB i think, i’d rather seperate my phone from my ipod, and the classic has the delay of a hard drive.
Posted by: Murtagh on February 27th, 2008 at 7:11 pmThe whole point of new technology is to be fast
Touch reigns supreme with a NON-scratchable screen, features, looks, and decent memory
And Ryan, shut up
murtagh: the iPhone comes with 8gb or 16gb.
Posted by: bunnc on March 2nd, 2008 at 2:28 amthe Touch comes with 8 gb, 16 gb or 32 gb
thanks, still the touch is better than iphone because phone is bigger and phone and mp3 player should be seperated
Posted by: Murtagh on March 5th, 2008 at 2:04 pmI’m debating over the Nano and Classic.
Posted by: Jocelynn on March 6th, 2008 at 12:21 amI honestly didn’t even know about being able to play videos, even movies and all that other stuff along with music on them.
I was originally aiming to get something that had a decent amount of capacity. But now that I’ve done some research, all those other features I hadn’t known about have got me thinking about videos I’d like to take with me, and maybe even movies.
I love the size of the Nano, but I’m not sure if 8gb would be enough for music+videos+movies?
go touch! the 8gb touch is best because then you can just use youtube or other websites to watch the small videos and put music on your ipod along with about 6 or 7 movies
Posted by: Murtagh on March 6th, 2008 at 7:03 pmHow much would the connection cost?
Posted by: Jocelynn on March 7th, 2008 at 2:11 amFlash and java work when browsing on touch? I guess not…..
Posted by: nikolas on March 7th, 2008 at 5:01 pmI had a 16 GB touch for about 2 weeks and returned it because it didn’t play games or lyrics (later fixed in s/w release) I got an 8 GB nano which is portable & I can watch music videos but I’d never watch a whole movie on it. I hate always having to make decisions on what music to take along with me tho… It’s not that I will listen to it all but I like to have choices depending on my mood. I will probably go get an 80 GB classic but use the nano for the gym… or give the nano to my daughter cause she has an old one that doesn’t do video and I’d just take a 2GB shuffle to the gym with a good playlist on it for working out. I wish they’d make the classic with a bigger screen. That wheel could be smaller. Oh well, by June there will probably be something new again…. I wanted an iPhone but they won’t work with Verizon and I use VZ Navigator a lot. Once the iPhones do GPS then I may switch over to ATT.
Posted by: Kathy on March 7th, 2008 at 11:29 pmIpod Touch is way better. (Example: 8 gb holds 1750 songs). I’ts more than enough for me. THE IPOD TOUCH IS SIMPLY THE GREATEST. Trust me.
Posted by: Hazeem on March 8th, 2008 at 8:56 amFinally I got my Nano (8GB) and I’m completely satisfied with it except one thing: the back. That shiny metal surface is very elegant, but all your fingerprints are visible on it not to mention that it gets scratched so easily. Although I treat it very carefully, there are still some slight scratches on it after one week of use. I wish Apple had kept the 2nd generation Nano’s aluminium back.
Posted by: Saussure on March 9th, 2008 at 3:23 amGeachte dames en heeren,
Terzijde geschoven dat de Ipod classic een beter functioneel apparaat is, kies ik toch voor de touch. Waarom? Het designe de wifire, het youtube, en tot slot het safari menu.
Posted by: Maarten on March 9th, 2008 at 1:07 pmDe touch heeft dus in zekere zin meer optie’s.

Schrijf maar in het Engels, dan is het waarschijnlijker dat je een antwoord krijgt op je bericht.
So the question is: Is the touch more likely to get damaged than the classic? Well, I don’t have a touch, but I think the display is more sensitive since it’s much bigger.

good luck to those who didn’t buy a touch and i pity you; i hope one day you will wake up and see why it is so much better.
to those who did or are going to buy a touch
you will not regret it
thankyou very much
peace!
GET THE 80GB IPOD CLASSIC reasons below:
-the right amount of storage (not too much like 160gb and not to little 8gb
-you wont get a lot of FINGERPRINTS all over the screen like the touch when you want to watch a movie
-the classic wont break as easily as the touch will
-gangs are more likely to steal the touch than the classic
-if you are walking and u want to change a song you can easily put your hand in your pocket and “click” the next song…but with the touch you constantly have to take it out so you can “touch” the next song
-worth its cost and still costs less than the 8 & 16gb ipod touch
Hope i made this statement clear:
ps: no games on touch, safari is crap u cant do anything on the touch internet except read and write. Oh and if you still want the touch…get the i phone its the same but better features
thanks for reading this,

LOL, yeah… xD
i love touch 8gb is so much more worth it rather than 16 or 32 gb because you get to save money on you tube and get to spend extra saved up money on protection case or music, videos ect…
Posted by: oliver on March 13th, 2008 at 5:08 amwhy get classic its so old school touch 8gb is more than enough even the biggest music collecter in the world would be able to narrow his collection down to his favourite 1750 songs and by the way who wants to watch movies on ipods anyway i know the touch screen is bigger than the other ipod screens but i would just get a panasonic portable dvd player much better for watching movies avoids eye strain trust me ge the 8gb is way better than all the others
Posted by: oliver on March 13th, 2008 at 5:12 ami got the touch in america two weeks ago and i have never lost interest in it i just cant stop looking at it the thought did cross my mind about making the wrong desision about getting the 8gb rather than the 16gb but then i did non stop research for weeks and realised i made the perfect desision for me atleast i dont know why people want more and more memeroy its just a waste of money ive got everything i need on my ipod touch and still have 3.34 gb remaining but its nice to know i have that space left cuz 3.34 gb may not look like much but beleive me it keeps my music collection going on 4 almost infinety i dont want movies on my ipod ive alreadt got a special edition dvd player so i have officially fallen in love with my ipod! whoever wastes their money on more capacity on their ipods are just throwing their money away i mean come on who actually uses up more than 8gb ? 160gb yeah theirs a challenge good luck anyway you have my opinion!!!!!
Posted by: oliver on March 13th, 2008 at 5:22 amif you go with what i said and get the 8 gig touch (trust me its worth it) then after time if you do fill up the touch with movies ect. then my next choich is the 80gb 5th gen classic just get that for additional memory trust me thats all its good for or even better… get the 6th gen classic 160 gb a bit pricey but it has a massive memory but i prefer the style of the 5th gen classic its up to you!

Posted by: oliver on March 13th, 2008 at 6:02 am@ Oliver
why would you buy the 8gb touch if you dont want to put videos…its the only iPod with a big enough screen for a movie. (you can watch movies when your traveling…its actually pretty comfortable once you get used to it)…the only downside on the touch is its touch screen. i mean do you care about have to look at ur dirty fingerprints all the time. and why would you use the internet on ur iPod. Get a computer and dont waste ur money. Soon your going to be a hermit if you always have that touch with you. In my opinion you should return your touch and get the nano 8gb…..then later when the touch lowers its price you can get one with a good amount of capacity like the 32gb. That way you can have all the music you want, all the photos you want, and a couple of movies you may want to watch.(buying a portable DVD player is just another waste of money.)
So remember:
Touch = small capacity, fingerprints, little movies
Classic= perfect capacity, looks nice, okay screen
Nano= little music, good for workouts, small videos
Shuffle= small music
The Choice is yours oliver

Posted by: oliver on March 13th, 2008 at 1:36 pmi dont understand why you would want both iPods. your looking at about six hundred to seven hundred bucks!…would you really want to spend that much just for music??? since you only have a small library of rock music i guess you should just keep your touch…there would be no need to get the classic unless you want EVERYTHING in your pocket lol. Since you dont want any movies the 8gb is probably the iPod you should have right now…dont waste your money on the classic unless you find a way to sell your touch. what about the16gb…you get twice as much memory as the 8gb so you can put whatever you want on it and mabey still have some extra room.
hope i could help

Posted by: Jocelynn on March 14th, 2008 at 1:44 amNo, I don’t own one. At least not yet, but am thinking about getting one.
I was just wondering about that kind of stuff. But I don’t plan on working out with it or anything. Just the usualy rushing in my daily routine.
Yeah, lol. Don’t try that for the sake of just finding out. n_n;
@APPLEMAN
i already have a ipod touch 8gb why would i get a 16gb?
Posted by: oliver on March 14th, 2008 at 7:25 am@oliver
i didnt mean get both….i meant like why dont you get an upgrade. return ur 8gb and get the 16gb so u can put all of your stuff you had on your 8gb onto the new one and still have a bunch of space left over. if you dont want to do that and keep ur 8gb then why not get a nano since you want to have a collection of iPods. Do you really need a classic if you wont put a lot of stuff on it.
anyways that’s just my opinion

AppleMan
Apple Man and everyone who thinks that you’ll get fingerpritns on the touch you’re all wrong
Posted by: Murtagh on March 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pmwhat, did you think apple was just gonna let that happen? you think their idiots? obviosly they are not. the screeen is different so fingerprints don’t show up
80 gigs is way too much 16 or 8 gigs is just enough. if you have tons of movies and tv shows i can see the 32gig but any more than that is way too much space as oliver was saying at first. Oliver either stick with the 8gig touch or return it and get the 16gig touch. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A CLASSIC. it’s just not smart. Safari on the touch is amazing and i don’t know about everyone else but pictures are good too.
i love calvin and hobbes and i tried putting them on my old nano 3rd generation. they were way too small and i coudln’t read them. the touch makes them look great. touch is best
also, i was skeptical at first about the touch but consider this: your walking through the house, someone else in your family is using the computer, your cooking and you need a recipe from online but you don’t want to leave the stove unattended, you’re the first awake and you don’t want to wake everyone else up by going on the computer, and many many more scenarios.
Posted by: Murtagh on March 14th, 2008 at 3:50 pmthe touch safari is the answer to these and more. pretty soon there will be wi-fi in cars so there wil be no need to have the classic. when that comes out everyone will want the touch except for those who only want the ipod shuffle. once that comes out apple will probably concentrate all their work that has to do with ipods on iphone and ipod touch. they’ll probably forget about everything else. then you’ll all be pretty mad at your own decision. that’s very smart
i almost forgot, to those who say that ipod touch doesn’t have games are extremely incorrect
just go to youtube and type in: ipd touch sdk demo
alright, just that one line and the entire
Posted by: Murtagh on March 14th, 2008 at 4:01 pmfirst page that shows up will be about games that ipod touch users can play, how’s that for games?
AND people can make applications. they can make them and sell them to apple if they pay $99. that’s all they have to pay in order to begin making games and other apps. every time their app sells they’ll get 70% of the profit so that means more and more games are going to come out and if you want to you can make your own game
Posted by: Murtagh on March 14th, 2008 at 4:03 pmyou can’t do that with the classic
@ Murtagh
you make some pretty good points there. but there are still other flaws with the iPod Touch. Say your walkin along and a song comes on ur iPod Touch you would rather not listen to at that moment. You have to take it out of your pocket each time just so you can skip to the next song. That’ll get annoying after a while. With the other iPods like the nano and classic you just have to reach into your pocket and click the next song without even taking it out.
And wont safari on the touch waste some battery life so you have to constantly charge it over and over again.
ooh you get to make Apps! not that cool. sure u get paid (if they like it lol)…but wouldn’t you want to spend ur life doing something other than that borin thing. oh and one more thing i have seen a couple of iPod touch’s and fingerprints are clearly visible in daylight. (and no i dont have any super vision). Anyways again this is all just my opinion.
Also some people do have big music libraries and movie libraries so it is smart for those people to get a classic (like me lol)
hope i cleared everything up

AppleMan
People, comon!
Ok. Touch is overrated.
Touch vs Classic
first of all, i like to sum up the “advantages” of the touch:
- bigger screen
- wi-fi
- touchscreen
- youtube, safari etc.
Biggerscreen.. right. uses more power, but nvm that. Like we care about battery life? but ok, watch movies on a bigger screen makes it better? NO! i watched movies on a nano, and when you forget you were watching -> then it doesn’t hardly matter what size your screen is. Ok, bigger is better. But only a little bit.
Wi-fi.. yeah ok, nice? But i mostly use a ipod when i’m traveling. And when i’m home, why bother useing a wierd touchscreen instead of my computer to watch youtube? (should i whine at ipod now because it has a smaller screen then my computer?xd). But seriously. It’s a cool feature, but i guess ill be useing my computer for those sort of things.
Touchscreen:
I don’t see this as an advantage tough. Clickwheel > all?
adjust volume with classic. just make a circular movement on the outside of your jeans? voila. next song? on click away!. same with pause/play and power.
Adjust volume with touch? get it out of you jeans (means standing up in some occasions). then click and do an accurate touch movement Next song? i heard you need to do some handlings too.
Ok. well. that been said. I rather buy ipod classic with TEN times more storage with the DOUBLE amout of batterylife. Scrach and fingerpring free. USERFRIENDLY > EVERYTHING. making me slithly less popular tough (or some freak with too much money xd).
i would buy an touch if i were someone who needs luxery items to become ’socially accepted’. or NEEDS youtube at all time while living in a computer free envoirement. ( but I just need an mp3 player, not a style icon that could make me potentially popular. Altough a ipod classic makes a good impression too ;))
Just think about it. When will you be using your ipod? and for what?
My choise has been made. ( i do have 100% wi-fi cover everywhere i go. and i don’t want my ipod to be like my laptop; if i want to change the song that came on, i want it to be one finger click away.
